Disable Changing IE’s Proxy Settings


This setting specifies to connect to the internet using the proxy server settings specified. A proxy server acts as an intermediary between your internal network (intranet) and the Internet, retrieving files from remote Web servers.If you enable this policy, the user will not be able to configure proxy settings. You can import your current Proxy settings from your machine using Internet Explorer Maintenance under Admin Templates using group policy editor.If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, the user will have the freedom to configure proxy settings.

Steps to Follow

  • Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.

Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.

  • Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and then select Internet Explorer in the left column of the Group Policy editor.

    Double-click Disable changing proxy settings in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
      Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes
